I am particularly drawn to the role of language in shaping and eroding memory. My focus is on multilingualism’s effect on speech, such as the fracturing of syntax, code-switching, and the unintended poetry that emerges from these linguistic disruptions. Animals feature prominently in my practice, symbolizing resistance to formal communication methods and challenging anthropocentric narratives. Through my work, I advocate for these perspectives and develop new ways of understanding. While my practice is rooted in drawing, I also work with sculpture and animation, emphasizing physical forms of video-making with traditional materials like paper. Die Rolle der Sprache fasziniert mich im&nbsp; Bezug auf die Gestaltung und Verfall von Erinnerungen. Mein Fokus liegt auf den Effekten der Multilingualität - etwa die Fragmentierung der Syntax, Code-Switching und der unbeabsichtigten Poesie, die aus diesen sprachlichen Brüchen entsteht. Tarmac explores the engendered inability to recognise the value of the natural environment, and the neglect to care or account for it in the pursuit of industry.&nbsp; It is grounded in the theory of natural aesthetics and Kantian ‘disinterestedness’, the natural world having value separate from economics or possessions. Even with the historical insights into the disruptive development of KS Airport, governing bodies are repeating the same mistakes. Health issues have been borne from noise and air pollution, and there have been disruptions to the migration patterns and feeding/breeding habitats of vulnerable species, from birds to sea life. The map shows organic, undefined imagery layered with a rigid schematic map of metropolitan and greater Sydney. It includes land clearing zones, flight paths, noise disturbance zones, environmentally damaged areas and animals affected by the building of the airports. These areas are drawn as bodily manifestations of pain, with elements akin to inflamed looking flesh and bruising. The aeroplanes mirror the map, with drawings of exposed bone, venation and contusions. I investigated the purpose of dolls and how they are used through thinking back on my childhood. I remembered that I used to reenact everyday scenarios, such as my ballet classes with my dolls. Playing can be used to mirror personal experiences and allows you to watch yourself from an outside perspective. Perhaps this is a way of practicing how you present yourself, or how you should react in different scenarios. This type of play mirrors societal pressures to perfect performance of gender. The idea came from the stark difference in our ability to feel empathy for different types of animals.
